Child Development Is Not A Race to the Finish Line

The growth of each dimension is inter-related, but child development itself is multi-faceted and also intriguing because it covers every aspect of the mind including physical, cognition (knowledge), social/ emotion. In every stage of development, children change and grow in ways that will influence their future.

Physical Development

Physical development includes variations in body size and physique as well because the integration of motor skills. During the first few years, babies begin rolling over, sitting up on their own, crawling and then eventually walking. Children continue to work on their gross motor development as they age and this includes mastering balance, coordination and dexterity.

Cognitive Development

Cognitive Development includes transformations in imagining, reasoning and making solutions. Infants learn through their 5 senses and older children develop more sophisticated thought processes, such as abstract reasoning or critical thinking.

Developing Social and Emotional Energy

Simply stated, social and emotional development includes learning to interact with others in effective ways; understanding emotions (our own & those of other people), including how our feelings can affect the way we behave but also that they are temporary states which we have some control over — or at least enough information for work-arounds; Self-awareness is a huge part of this as well. Your kids learn how to create social relationships, work with others and control their feelings as well.

Variables Affecting Kid Development

The development of a child is influenced by many factors, some directly and others indirectly.

Environment: Indeed, a child’s family life, culture and socio-economic status can all have an impact on their development.
